During the "Off-Season" you can join AFL Umpire John Howorth live online each Wednesday at 7pm.
AFL Umpire John Howorth, who is Outer East Football's Head of Umpiring, spent five seasons in the VFL where he had the chance to umpire the TAC Cup Grand Final in 2016, as well as both the VFL and AFLW Grand Finals in 2018. He earnt the opportunity to get a spot on the AFL Umpires list for 2019, making his debut in the St Kilda v Adelaide game during Round 6. John's still umpiring at the highest level and was recently appointed as our Head of Umpiring for AFL Outer East and we were thrilled to welcome him on board.
John's Weekly Whistle sessions are interactive, so umpires get a chance to ask him all about his career and also learn more about topics like body maintenance, fitness education, importance of nutrition and healthy life habits. As we get closer to the start of each season John begins to narrow down the focus to discuss decision making, rules of the game and match management.
We will keep you posted on the return to online Weekly Whistles closer to the end of Season 2022.
All our registered umpires have access to the Members Portal and the new Coaches Corner Blog & Discussion Board. These are the "in-season" tools that temporarily replace the online Weekly Whistles.
To coincide with our first group training sessions for 2022, from Monday 7th February we will be posting to our Coaches Blog on the Members Portal each week.
Each new post will also automatically open up a discussion topic in our new “Coaches Q&A Discussion Board” so umpires can ask questions and discuss the topic with John and the Coaches.
