Of Note: (YVMDFL) Yarra Valley Mountain Districts Football League 1972 - 2003, became the (YRUA) Yarra Ranges Umpires Association in 2004. In 2003 the (DRJFL) Dandenong Ranges Junior Football League also became part of YRUA. All of these Associations are represented in our Honour Boards below.

The Yarra Ranges Umpires Association community wish to extend their sincere condolences to the Stuart Family on the passing of Life Member John (Barry) Stuart.
Barry commenced umpiring with the YVMDFL during the 70’s and went on to become Director of Umpiring from the late 70’s through to the early 80’s whilst still continuing to umpire. Barry also spent time as an Umpire Observer/Adviser and as League Secretary (assisted in this role by his late wife Joan, who famously used to make sandwiches for the Tribunal).
A great Tigers supporter (who had a healthy passion against Collingwood), Barry was known to ‘tell it how it was’ earning the respect of everyone involved in football at all levels, he was a great umpire, leader and teacher for our umpiring community and will be very much missed.
Although many of our current umpires may not have had the opportunity of meeting or umpiring with Barry, past members of the Association remember him with great respect, describing him as a true gentleman of the game whose tireless contributions helped shape the successful foundations of our Umpiring Association.
To the Stuart family, on behalf of all past and present Yarra Ranges Umpires, we share in your sadness as you remember Barry and we extend our deepest sympathy during this difficult time.
